1. Know your skin type
Before building any skin care regimen you should know your skin type.

• Normal skin
If your skin isn’t particularly oily or dry and if anti-aging, acne, and sensitivity aren’t your concerns ___ in short balanced, clear and not sensitive then you have a normal skin. The skin type all of us wish we had.
• Dry skin
Dry skin is usually rough, flaky and has cracks. The main cause of dry skin is lack of moisture. It doesn’t represent a serious problem but sometimes it can be difficult to treat.
• Oily skin
Oily skin is shiny, greasy, and may have big pores. Oily skins have built-in oil that can lead to acne problem. For oily skin the goal is to lessen the oil and keep the skin cells hydrated.
• Sensitive skin
If your skin is turning red, irritated, and flaky at the slightest thing then you have a sensitive skin. It may sting, burn, or itch after you use some makeup or other products. So you have to be very careful for using anything on your face.
• Combination skin
It is the skin which is dry in some spots (cheeks) and oily in others (forehead, nose, and chin). If you draw a big “T” on your face, all the skin under that T would likely be oily, while the areas left outside the T are dry . That’s why we use the term “T-zone” when talk about combination skin.
My skin
I have a combination skin which is fine in summer time but in winters it acts weird. The area around my lips gets so much irritated and dry that I usually get red skin if I don’t treat it properly. It happens only around lips area, the other skin remain fine. So I have to take very good care of my skin especially in winters. I keep it very well moisturized so I don’t get that dryness problem. Products I use for my skin care regimen are the ones which are good for all skin types.
2. Cleansing
Proper cleaning of your face should be the first step of your daily skin care routine. Cleansing your face two times a day is enough. Too much washing can over dry your skin.

• When
The best time to properly cleanse your face is at night just before going to bed. In that way you can remove all dirt, debris and impurities stored on your skin during the long tiring day. In morning you can wash away the dead cells your skin has developed overnight using any gentle cleanser according to your skin type. Perspiration, especially when wearing a hat or helmet or after work out, irritates the skin. Wash your skin as soon as possible after sweating.
• How
Use a gentle cleanser according to your skin type that does not contain any alcohol.
Use your fingertips to apply cleanser.Using any sponge or scrubbing on your skin can cause irritation.
Wash your face with lot of lukewarm water. Warm water helps lift the dirt out of your skin, but hot water can dry your skin.
Pat dry with the soft towel.
• What
Don’t just grab whatever soap is in the shower or at the sink to wash your face.
Find the skin care that works best for you. Try a good gentle cleanser according to your skin type. If your skin dries out or gets oily, try a different one.
When you find the best cleanser for your face and you are totally satisfied move to the next step of your skin care.
• I use
For my skin care I try to be as generous as I could. I can spend more money on my beauty products rather than spending much on my clothes. I must be satisfied with the products I use and believe me I am…
For daily cleansing I switch between Estee Lauder Perfectly Clean Multi-Action Foam Cleanser/Purifying Mask
($25) which gives me instant cleaning and Estee Lauder Crescent White Full Cycle Brightening Cleanser, 4.2 oz ($40) which also brightens my skin along with cleansing. For deep cleansing I chose Estee Lauder NightWear Plus 3-Minute Detox Mask, 2.5 oz
($47) and Dior Hydra Life- Glow better -Fresh jelly Mask (1.7 oz for $69). I use these masks 2 to 3 times a week.3. Toning
skin toner is usually a kind of lotion or wash to cleanse the skin and minimize the appearance of pores.

• When
you need to apply toner after every wash. With regular proper toning you will feel your skin fresh and pores will be less visible.
• How
You don’t need to apply a lot of toner just take a cotton ball and dip it in toner and swipe it around your face. If you have any problem area like oily T-zone or flaky skin, focus on it.
• I use
This Toning lotion I got in sample from Estee Lauder and now I am happy that I am completely switched to it. Estee Lauder Micro Essence Skin Activating Treatment Lotion, 2.5 oz.
($59).4. Serum
Serum is like a juice to your skin. It is also a great way to address any specific skin issues. Serum is also good for dullness and loss of radiance.

• When
Apply serum after you have toned your skin and before your moisturizer.
• How
Use several drops of serum. Apply them on your fingertips and smooth in gently all over your face starting at the center, in outward direction.
• I use
The serum is again from Estee Lauder and this is perfect. Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex Ii, 1.7 oz
($98). You can try the smaller size first which is 1 oz for $68.5. Moisturize
It is absolutely essential to provide your skin proper hydration so that it looks healthy. It is not only for the people with dry skin who need to do this. People with any skin type must moisturize their skin. No matter what the season is.

• When
You have to moisturize your skin after applying serum. Proper moisturizer will help your skin look younger and healthy. It also depends on your skin type that how many times you need to moisturize it.
• How
Use a decent amount of moisturizer and gently apply it on your face and neck using your fingers in circular motion avoiding your eye area.
• I use
Along with moisturizer Skin brightening was also one of my concerns so for night-time I use DIORSNOW Brightening Refining Moist Cloud Creme (1.7 oz for $125) which instantly brightens my skin, and in morning I use Estee Lauder Revitalizing Supreme Plus Global Anti-Aging Cell Power Creme, 1.7 oz
($82). They both give me desired results.6. Eye Creme
Don’t forget your eye cream or serum! The under eye area is the thinnest part of your skin and needs proper moisturizing too. Regular use of eye creme reduces the signs of eye aging, wrinkles, puffiness and dark circles.

• When
This is the last step of your daily skin care regimen. After applying moisturizer on your face and neck hydrate your eye area. You can use your eye creme/serum at AM and PM.
• How
Massage or pat a pea-sized amount of eye cream under your eyes. Blend gently around your eye using your ring finger.
• I use
For my eyes, my choice is Hydra Life- Sorbet Eye Creme by Christian Dior (0.5 oz for $56)
Things To Remember Related to Your Skin Care
There are few more things you should add to your skin care routine and make them your habit.
Sunscreen
Google image
The sun can damage your skin in just 15 minutes so it is very essential to protect your skin from direct sunlight by using a good sunscreen. Your moisturizer may already have sun protection factor (SPF). But it is better to use a separate protection. Use a ‘broad spectrum’ sunscreen with at least an SPF of 30. No matter if it is sunny or not, wear your sunscreen daily even if it is cold.
Remove makeup before bed
Google image
It is very important to remove makeup before going to bed as it can cause extensive damage to your skin during the night.
When you are tired it looks so tempting to sleep having your makeup on. The skin renews itself while you sleep, and when you leave makeup on, it can clog your pores and cause acne. So wash your makeup off with a makeup remover using a wash cloth or cotton pads. You can also use makeup remover wipes.
Choosing Makeup
Choosing makeup is also one of the concerns related to your skin care. If you wear makeup, choose products that are water-based and avoid oil-based makeup. If the makeup you are using does not have expiration date on it, write down on your own the date when you start using that product. So that you can avoid using it for extended period of time. Especially Eye Makeup, You cannot use for long and need to be replaced first. For example toss your mascara after 3 months.
Diet and proper sleep

Better sleep and healthy (plant-based) diet are the keys to younger looking, healthy and glowing skin. Fill your plate with veggies, fruits, whole grain and add good proteins like eggs, fish and chicken to your daily diet. Avoid excessive use of salt and sugar. Drink plenty of water.
Good night’s rest can improve your skin health. Go to bed at time when you can get your best sleep and maximize your skin health benefits. Avoid late-night caffeine drinks and spicy foods that may keep you awake.
